they're not technically illegal, but they do violate myspace terms of service, and if myspace finds a user with them, they will delete the profile and possibly ban that person from returning.

They are SPAM and if you accept them your profile can get hacked... It's best to put it where you have to approve all comments before allowing them to make sure no one even leaves one on your page...
